Understanding Quietness & Privacy Scores
How the 1–5 scoring system works and what each score means for your camping experience.
Quietness Score
Measures how quiet and undisturbed a site feels:
- **5** — Complete solitude. No road noise, no neighbors, no aircraft. True backcountry silence.
- **4** — Very quiet. Occasional distant noise but generally peaceful.
- **3** — Moderately quiet. Some ambient noise but still relaxing.
- **2** — Noticeable noise. Road traffic, nearby activity, or other campers audible.
- **1** — Not quiet. High traffic area, close to roads or development.
Note: Quietness can vary by season and day of week. Check recent condition updates for the latest.
Privacy Score
Measures how visually screened and private a site feels:
- **5** — Completely hidden. Not visible from any approach. Dense tree screening.
- **4** — Very private. Minor visibility from one direction when approached closely.
- **3** — Moderately private. Partially visible but has screening on most sides.
- **2** — Limited privacy. Visible from multiple directions or near trails.
- **1** — Open. Clearly visible from road, water, or adjacent sites.
