How the Map & Filters Work
Using the interactive map, filtering sites, and understanding locked vs unlocked site markers.
The Site List
The **Sites** page shows all published campsites in a grid layout. You can filter by:
- **Province** — narrow down to a specific province
- **Access type** — drive-in, off-road, paddle-in, or hike-in
- **Quietness score** — how secluded the site feels
- **Privacy score** — how visually screened the site is
- **Amenities** — dog-friendly, water available, free/paid
- **Best seasons** — spring, summer, fall, winter
Filters update the list instantly. The result count at the top shows how many sites match.
The Interactive Map
The map shows all published sites as pins. Click a pin to see a site preview. The map uses MapLibre GL with OpenFreeMap tiles — no Google or Apple map dependencies.
**Pin colours:**
- **Green pins** — unlocked sites. Click to view the full site details, including directions, access info, and coordinates.
- **Yellow pins** — locked sites. You can see the name and a brief summary, but need to spend credits to unlock the detailed information.
- **Blue pins** — your private "My sites" spots (in the My-sites scope).
- **Orange pins** — sites shared with you by other members (in the My-sites scope, read-only).
On the **Sites** page you can toggle between **Community sites** and **My sites** — the latter shows your private library plus anything shared with you, in the list and on the map.
Locked vs Unlocked Sites
Some sites have **locked** detail pages. A locked site shows basic info (name, province, region) but hides the long description, access details, and coordinates. To unlock a site, spend credits.
- **Unlocked** sites show: full description, access details, GPS coordinates, photos
- **Locked** sites show: name, brief summary, province, quietness/privacy scores
Credits spent on a site unlock it permanently for your account. You only unlock once per site.
