How Quiet Camping Protects Your Spots from Overexposure

1. A Carefully Curated Community

It all starts with the people. Quiet Camping is not an open platform for everyone.

• Invite or approval-based admission — Every new member is vetted before getting an account. We check that they share our philosophy: protecting spots rather than exposing them.
• No public sign-up — You can't create an account without going through our approval process. This naturally filters out people who don't understand the platform's ethics.
• Revocable access — Any member who breaches site confidentiality can have their account revoked.

2. Exact Coordinates Are Hidden Behind a Credit System

This is our most important protection mechanism.

• Approximate coordinates only — Published sites on Quiet Camping never show exact coordinates. The map displays an approximate location (roughly 11 km of precision). Close enough to assess the area, but not precise enough to visit without unlocking the details.
• Credit-based unlock — To see the exact coordinates, a member spends a credit. The unlock is permanent — you only pay once per site, and the details stay available on your account.
• No incentive to share elsewhere — Since you have to "pay" to see coordinates, there's no benefit to sharing them elsewhere. If anything, it would waste access to a network that took effort to join.

3. Identifying Details Are Locked in the Long Description

When submitting a site, we ask members not to enter exact coordinates or identifying details in public fields (short description, site name, region, etc.).

• Precise details go in the long description — locked behind the credit system.
• What's publicly visible: site name, province, approximate region, nearest town, access difficulty, camping type, and amenities.
• What requires a credit: exact GPS coordinates, detailed access directions, precise location notes.

4. Systematic Verification Before Approval

Every submitted site goes through a review process before being published:

1. Coordinate verification — We use the exact coordinates provided in the submission to locate the site on a map.
2. Automatic near-duplicate check — The system compares the submission against already-published sites within 10 km to catch duplicates before a human ever looks at it.
3. Cross-reference on known camping apps — We systematically check whether the site already exists on Park4Night and iOverlander.
4. If the site is already listed elsewhere — It could already be "burnt" (exposed) and overcrowded, so it is not accepted on Quiet Camping. This ensures only still-preserved spots are shared on our network.
5. Quality check — We ensure the submission meets our discretion and quality standards before approving it.

These checks run automatically when an admin opens a submission, and the findings are recorded in the review notes — so every approval decision is transparent and repeatable.

5. Trust Levels: Visibility Goes to Proven Members

Not everyone sees the same thing on Quiet Camping. Members earn a trust level through quality contributions — approved site submissions, approved reviews and condition updates, resolved reports, and approved referrals. The most sensitive sites are only ever fully visible to members who have demonstrated they will protect them.

• Trusted members receive a shield badge and a fully detailed, enhanced presentation for protected sites.
• Trust is earned, not bought — every qualifying contribution automatically raises your trust score.
• Standard members still see the community list and map with approximate coordinates; deeper visibility is reserved for proven contributors.

6. Unlock Caps: Limits on Exposure per Site

Beyond credits, each site carries an annual unlock cap (set by the submitter or admins, default 10 per year). Once that many members have unlocked a site's exact coordinates in a rolling 365-day window, the site stops accepting new unlocks until the window rolls over. The submitter, already-unlocked members, and admins are never blocked.

7. Member-Only Sharing: You Stay in Control

Sharing from your personal site library (folders or read-only links) never means exposing sites to the public:

• Members only — every share link requires a Quiet Camping account; there is no anonymous access.
• Read-only by design — recipients can view what you share but cannot edit, submit, or re-share it.
• Instant revocation + expiry — you keep control of every share, forever.
• Referrals go hand-in-hand — when you share by email, include your referral link so your friends can join through you.

8. Credit Economy: A Self-Regulating System

The credit system is designed to align everyone's interests:

The principle is simple:

• To earn credits, you must contribute. Submitting quality sites, earning badges and reaching new levels all accumulate credits that let you explore further.
• To see exact coordinates, you must spend. Unlocking a site's details costs a credit — but the unlock is permanent, so you only pay once per site.
• Buying credits is possible ($9.99 CAD each) — but most members prefer to contribute to earn their credits, which strengthens the community.

What You Can Do to Help

As a Quiet Camping member, here's how you help protect the network:

1. Be discreet — Don't share exact site coordinates outside the platform.
2. Report abuse — If you see a Quiet Camping site listed elsewhere, report it to us immediately.
3. Submit quality sites — The more good spots the network has, the more valuable it becomes for everyone, and the more everyone wants to protect it.
4. Invite trusted people — The network's strength depends on the quality of its members. Only invite people who understand and respect the philosophy.
